Evolution and quantitative genetics of wood quality in Norway spruce

Abstract
The current distribution and population structure of many species have been, to a large extent, shaped by cycles of isolation in glacial refugia and by the subsequent expansion of populations. Isolation and postglacial expansion in heterogeneous environments led to neutral or adaptive divergence. The Norway spruce is no exception and its current distribution is the consequence of a constant interaction between evolutionary and demographic processes. How can quantitative genetics help to understand evolution?
