Session "Hauntings"

The best poetry films from around the world - and the world in the microcosm of poetry film. This is where great poetry performances meet moving stories. Over 1,000 entries from more than 90 countries were submitted for the ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival 2025. Accompanying the International Competition, the festival offers an insight into the diversity of the poetry film scene in four programs with around 50 animations, feature films, experimental films and documentaries. Filmmakers and poets question history and current political conditions, explore identities and the ever-present longing for human closeness, are guided by ghosts and travel through landscapes and memories. Their films move between visionary dreams and clearly documentary approaches – they are as poetic as they are fearless.

The short film program also deals with topics such as violence, separation, loss and emotional stress. Some films contain explicit depictions and intense emotional scenes that can be disturbing.
